Spotted this carved tree along the Appalachian Trail between Dalton and Cheshire, MA. Many hundreds (thousands?) of AT hikers pass through Dalton each year, stopping in town for a short stay to pick up packages at the post office, buy groceries, eat large at the local restaurants, do laundry, then move on, most heading north toward Maine. My workplace is directly on the AT, on Depot Street in Dalton. Seeing the hikers walk past the office always sparks a want to hit the trail myself. I’ve hiked sections of the trail in New England, however most of my trekking was done in Nepal, where I trekked to the Mt Everest base camp, and Kala Patar, way back in 1987.
