If you are traveling in India and have time, do not miss a trip out to the Maldive Islands. It is a spectacular island country South West of India in the Indian Ocean. We traveled down the coast from Mumbai to Trivandrum and caught a flight out to Male, and from there found an Atoll with vacancy for us with the help from a surprised Maldives tourist agent. Surprised because hardly anyone comes to the Islands without a booked reservation. We spent a week snorkeling, scuba diving and laying around our beach hut.

If you are looking for perfect beaches to hang out on, and who isn't, go here. The people are very friendly in Male, we spent a night there waiting for a boat out to the Atoll we stayed at. Once on the atolls you are in the hands of the resort owners and have little contact with locals.

Scuba diving day trips, we spotted manta rays, octopus, and the usual array of reef fish. Whale sharks make frequent appearances here, but we didn't see any. I have some slides of our scuba diving somewhere that I will add in the future.
